Mpumalanga schools faced by water and poor Sanitation challenge

The Mpumalanga Department of Education is satisfied and pleased with the management of the phasing in of grades R,6 and 11 learners in almost all the schools in the Province.

The department says there are 65 270 grade R learners from public schools, 19 000 grade R learners from community based centres, 86 356 grade 6 learners and 77 555 grade 11 learners who were expected to report back to school this week.

The overall grade R attendance was between reported by the department was 40% to 50% on Monday.

The department says it will still continue with monitoring to ensure safety and compliance to the standards and protocols set.

“We are hopeful that everyone will be safe in our schools if we all work together in line with the Covid 19 health and safety protocols”.

Meanwhile, the department says there were challenges which were reported in some schools, the main challenge being water and sanitation infrastructure, is receiving the utmost attention of the department.

The department is grateful to parents for entrusting their children to continue their learning journey.
