DJ Warras Murder Case: Accused to Remain in Custody as Court Sets January Bail Hearing

The man accused of murdering beloved radio personality DJ Warras, born Warrick Stock, will remain behind bars until at least 6 January 2026, after the court postponed bail proceedings in the high-profile case.

DJ Warras was fatally shot on 16 December 2025 while on duty at a Johannesburg property where he was reportedly performing security work. He sustained a gunshot wound to the hip, which proved fatal. His killing sent shockwaves across South Africa’s media and entertainment industry, sparking widespread public outrage and calls for justice.

Following a police investigation, Victor Mthethwa Majola was arrested and has since been formally charged with premeditated murder, a Schedule 6 offence that carries the possibility of life imprisonment.

During his court appearance, the state confirmed it is opposing bail. The defence indicated its intention to bring a formal bail application and placed on record that the accused has no previous convictions, no pending cases, and no outstanding warrants of arrest.

The defence further alleged that the accused was assaulted during his arrest and requested that he be given medical attention for injuries allegedly sustained while in police custody.

However, the court ruled that bail proceedings cannot move forward until the accused’s residential address is verified, a legal requirement in serious offences of this nature. As a result, the matter was postponed to 6 January 2026, and the accused was ordered to remain in custody.

DJ Warras’ death has reignited debate around violent crime and public safety, particularly involving public figures working in high-risk environments. Authorities have also cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation, urging reliance on verified court proceedings.

The case is expected to draw intense public attention when it returns to court in the new year.
