Siblings drown during family outing

The devastating incident took the lives of two siblings aged 31 and 33 at a park in Barberton, Mpumalanga over the weekend.

According to the police in Mpumalanga, the family of 15 members residing at Tjakastad Trust in Elukwatini went to visit the Park to host a party.

“The siblings, Elvis Khumalo 33 years old and 31-year-old June Khumalo was part of the group and was seen by another family member swimming that evening but mysteriously vanished. The entire family began a searching party for them until late at night but without any success,” said the police.

The police said the search resumed the following day, Sunday, 29 November 2020, an employee at the park noticed something suspicious in the pool and that is when lifeless bodies of the siblings were discovered.

Police, as well as paramedics, were notified about the incident and upon arrival, the victims were certified dead.

The police in Mpumalanga have appealed to the public to avoid the dangers of swimming in pools and dams especially without adequate training, proper monitoring as well as whenever they have consumed beverages which might put their lives in a compromising position.
