Floyd Shivambu: To Start a new Political Party

Share

Floyd Shivambu has made it clear that he will not resign from the MK Party, despite his recent demotion as Secretary-General and internal tensions. Speaking at a press conference on June 19, 2025, Shivambu emphasized his continued commitment to the movement, saying:

“I will never resign from the MK Party. There is still work to be done.”

However, in a surprising turn, Shivambu announced that he — along with certain MK Party members, public figures, churches, and segments of the broader South African public — will begin a consultation process to assess whether there is public appetite for the formation of a new political party.

“We are not rushing to register a new party. We are consulting. We are listening to the people.”

This comes amid allegations that he was removed from his position for allegedly plotting to undermine party leadership — accusations he strongly denied, calling them “fabricated” and “ridiculous.”
