DBE has come under fire for sending grade R back to school amid covid19
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has come under fire following its decision to re-open schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile the Department has dragged the return of some grades; parents have expressed fears that the revised plan may still endanger the lives of learners.
However, in a bid to deal with the spread of the virus, only fewer learners will be allowed back in class next week than initially planned.
While only grades R, 6 and 11 pupils are expected back in class next week, the department also came to light about the threat of the Covid19 pandemic not being avoided, adding that there are already infections in the communities where these schools are.
Furthermore, the department has emphasised that life must go on allowing learners to go back to school.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga is expected to address the nation on the progress in the basic education sector since the reopening of schools in the COVID-19 environment, on Sunday, 05 July 2020.
The Minister is also expected to elaborate on the revised plans regarding the return of other grades to school.
MECs of Education are also expected to form part of the address.
